I'm compelled to describe my faith first by explaining what it is not. My faith is not invented or inherited, but a personal response to what God has done for me in Jesus Christ. Neither is my faith my "religion." There are many religions, but only one true faith--that which objectively reconciles God with man. Religions seek to attain, appease, or impress the divine by being "good", whereas true faith discovers that God has come to us in the God-man, Jesus Christ, just as we are: spiritually impoverished. Furthermore, my faith is not a compartment in my life, but my central motive and identity.
In my youth I dealt with a fiery temper. Having been introduced early to Christ (thank you, Mom and Dad!), I one day yielded that malady to Him. That was my first encounter with a tangible work of God, as my temperament was permanently transformed. As I grew up, I discovered that the Bible is indeed the Word of God, and developed a reverence for its great truth, effectual counsel, heartfelt expressions of God toward man and of the worshiper toward God, and poignant record of God's interaction with humanity. I can confidently say that God is near to anyone who seeks Him in His Word. That is where He will be found.
